Subaru EE20 Diesel Engine

The EE20 engine had an aluminium alloy block with 86.0 mm bores and an 86.0 mm stroke for a capacity of 1998 cc. For its Euro 4 and Euro 5 versions, the EE20 engine had a semi-closed block (i.e. the cylinders bores were attached to the outer case at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions) for greater rigidity around the head gasket.

Subaru FA20D Engine

The FA20D engine had an aluminium alloy cylinder head with chain-driven double overhead camshafts. The four valves per cylinder – two intake and two exhaust – were actuated by roller rocker arms which had built-in needle bearings that reduced the friction that occurred between the camshafts and the roller rocker arms (which actuated the valves).
